Google as a Unique Enterprise

Google is as original as they come. Their approach in tackling on the latest technology, their zest for coming up with new forms of search engine algorithms, their business dealings, and even down to the rainbow colored soles of their employees shoes (untrue) can be scrutinized and have the word "original" blazing as the ultimate word to describe this company. For starters, it is run by the most experienced technologists who have the ability to keep on ticking, reinventing new forms of technology, and making it better. The Google homepage might look astonishingly simple, but behind it is a maze of experimentation that at times could be considered useless.

According to Page, one of the founders, the company tries and fails at 10 things before reaching a concept that is successful. In the process of doing the 10 things, they can figure out what works and what doesn't, which doesn't make it the waste we expect it to be. For instance, you can call a toll-free number in New York 1-888-765-7332 and do a search for it through Google over the phone. Who would want to do that? If you check out catalogs.google.com, ther eis an extensive list of over 6,000 mail order catalog listings available to you. What does this mean? It means an unlucky individual at the Google headquarters sifts through thousands of catalogs like Camping World and Cracy Crow Trading Post and scans them for searching. Very useful indeed. However, Google isn't flaunting this service by any means, including not mentioning it on the main page. To the Google folks, it is just a game. This game isn't generating any profits at all. Instead it takes a backseat to the overall scheme of the company, which mission is to organize every bit of information in the world to make it available for everyone.

By creating things that aren't even hyped to the public, the two founders could have turned into paupers in no time. Instead of turning poor, they managed to build an explosive brand of Internet technology, despite the fact they are clueless about marketing and have no interest in a marketing team. With this philosophy of business running, Google will make revenue that will approach 1 billion. As of last count, a third of all Web searches pass through Google - an astonishing feat indeed for the paupers.
