After coming up with a nifty set of potentially profit-exploding keywords
(expanding and targeting included), you must refine them afterwards. Refining
keywords means adding all the associated synonyms and variations that come with
your main themes and discarding everything that is useless. Refining starts by
removing irrelevant keywords. Irrelevant keywords that those that come up with
search results that your prospective customers are not aiming at. Some keyword
searches have more results for something else than your main keyword. An example
of this is the keyword "french dish", where there are search results peppered
with references to dish soap and dish towels instead of actual french food
items.
Adding synonyms and collloquialisms is also an integral part of refining your
keywords. After choosing keywords that best reflect your business, the next
action is to include words that describe what you are offering in general. For
example, if your keyword phrase is computer chips, you might add phrases like
Pentium computer chips, high speed computer chips, damaged computer chips (to
attract attention to your authorized service repair center, per se), and more.
Colloquial phrases can include "plasmon based computer chips" and so on. Consult
your thesaurus to come up with additional variations.
Don't expect your keyword searches to properly spell your keyword every single
time! Adding common mispellings to the keyword list is a smart idea. For
instance, the computer chip phrase can include compeuter chip, computer chaps,
and so on. This doesn't necessarily mean customers don't know how to spell -
many of them produce typos, which are accidental in nature. After removing
irrelevant keywords, adding synonums, and mispellings, your keyword list should
be fairly large. Remember, this is to your benefit as you are paying for clicks
and not paying a fee for every additional keyword after five. Your computer can
also dictate a maximum cost per click for every clickthrough you generate. This
means some keywords will run up more costs than others, which is fine in the
overall scheme of your business. Work your keyword list in this manner and
expect the profits to start rolling in in the form of click throughs, the
trademark of a strong, visible web presence.
